Description
Originally manufactured in the late 1870s to early 1880s, this Winchester Second Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine bridges two legendary worlds: the American frontier and Hollywood’s Golden Age. Initially built as a working rifle during the height of the Old West, this carbine was later acquired and used by Stembridge Gun Rentals, the premier movie armory that supplied authentic firearms for classic Western films.
Stamped with the distinctive “S” Stembridge property mark on the bottom of the receiver and “S7203” over the faint original serial number “52587”, this rifle was catalogued into Stembridge’s film inventory and likely appeared on screen in Western productions during the mid-20th century. The piece retains its saddle ring on the left side—an iconic feature of cavalry and trail guns—along with a block blade front sight and folding two-leaf rear sight.
With its weathered patina and well-worn wood, this Winchester perfectly embodies the rugged spirit of the frontier while carrying the undeniable aura of cinematic history. A true dual-provenance collectible, it would make a centerpiece in any Winchester or Hollywood memorabilia collection.
